Milky way centre at Tampines Central
Milky way centre at Tampines Central
Tested with Canon 550D un-mod, 1 - 2 months back, aiming at Sagittarius - Galatic Center portion at Tampines Central, only the brightest part of it shows out as Milky Patch. The widest usable lens that night was around 35 mm &. as for the other one, M24 Milky way patch, used 135mm Zoom & had obtained better contrast.

WOW PETER! This is an incredible proof that it can be still photographed in Singapore! Can share the exposure and ISO settings for both photos?
If you do not mind sharing, where exactly in Tampines Central is this?
Was it visible with naked eyes (no matter how dim as long as you can see it)?

Re: Milky way centre at Tampines Central
Hi Gary, thanks, glad that you like it:
The Milky way center source files (CR2 + jpg) were deleted liao as i thought it was not nice, based on memory, using 35mm at F5.6, at ISO 400 / 800 exposed for about 1 min, 25 shots aligned / combined.
The M24 still have the source files, at 135 mm, ISO 800 @ 1 mins X 20 shots combined.
The place is : Blk 507A roof top level of the multi-story car park, car park lighting only at waist level & street lamps below it, dark enough for visual too, no cars when late, can pop-in to take a look when free. As i seldom & not familiar with visual work, has not tried it out but by looking at the sky above it, the light pollution seems to produce a blanket of glow, so the chance of seeing it with our eyes is slim, for visual work, i relied on F2.0 135mm lens attached to SCB-2000 / Astrovid EX cam to get integration video streaming, in this way, i had seen objects like M31 Core, M104, Omega Centauri, Centaurus A etc real time in SG.

Re: Milky way centre at Tampines Central
Thanks for the very detailed info! Really appreciate it. Photo nice or not does not affect their huge implied significance that "there's still hope" and "it's not too late" for Singapore skies. From now on, it should be a crime to delete ANY photos of milky way shot in Singapore! Haha

Hi,
Nice... better than the one I took long time ago. Will want to try again when the sky is clear.
Have a nice day.
