Hi folks:
This year Perseids is worth watching if sky condition permitted... Latest prediction(s) revealed a peak 40-minute wide centred on < aug 11 20 50 GMT> which is our Thursday[glow=red] Aug12 ~ 5am[/glow]. ZHR was predicted to be >100 meteors per hour...dim meteors are expected though...
If you can - start watching past midnight - you might be lucky to catch those earth grazer meteors... entering earth at 'shallow' angle and produces long long luminous trail. The radiant is between the 'E' Cassiopeia and Perseus the 'slanting' Y-shaped constellation.

yeah man...this is not the first time we are being confused. all please remember that past 12am, its the next day, so please ensure everyone take the correct reference, so there is no confusion...MooEy wrote:err.. just to confirm, we should stay up on wednesday and wait till thursday for it? somewhere on thursday morning?

incidently, I have NEVER been able to see a meteor shower in singapore...the clouds are ALWAYS in the way when it happens. to add insult to injury..its 100% cloud cover. I remember 2 years back I woke up at 2am to go to east coast to see it. the beach was PACKED to the brim with people but not a SINGLE meteor was seen...100% clour cover....sigh...

I have personally seen a meteor shower in Singapore. I seen it at Tanjung beach of sentosa.
8) But sad to say, Singapore being at the equator, the magnetic n gravitational field lines the weakest. Thus the ZHR is very low. The total meteor observed is only15, for Leonids. I think partly because of 65% cloud cover. But frankly u can't find a total dark spot in Singapore.

Please pardon me but I am really getting very confused after reading this thread. :? So is Perseids meteor shower peak in the morning straight after Wenesday night, or is it after 12AM on Thursday?
Please enlighten me!! Thanks!
it's straight after wednesday night.
for the brits, it is aug 11 8.50pm. but for us, it is +8gmt, which will be on aug 12 4.50am. meaning... stay up the night on august 11 and wait overnight will do =p.
cheers,

Hi,
According to the IMO (International Meteor Organization), the Maximum is at August 12, 11h - 13h 20m UT ( http://www.imo.net/calendar/cal04.html#Perseids ) which is Singapore time August 12, 19h - 21h 20m.
Anyway, I think the peak will be somewhere from Singapore time August 12, 05h to 21h, so good luck for those are going to see this meteor showers... according to prediction, the ZHR will be 100 or more and may even reach storm levels!
Have a nice day.
