Automated Scopes Or Normal Scopes

Post by A 5 YeaR Old »

What do you guys think, does scopes with stuff like auto star or a normal scope better for a newb?
autostar shorten the time taken to find and look for an object but it reduce the chance to learn more about the night sky significantly.
Normal scopes may take a newb ages to find a simple object but they allows them to learn more about the nightsky.

What do you guys think?

Hmmm.... I think a good normal scope would be better as the person would learn more about the nightsky. However, if the "normal" scope is so-called "bad", it might make the person frustrated, and this is where he/she changes to automated scopes, i guess.

cheapo gotos, forget about those. prolly take too long to properly get them to work, and may not be accurate. in fact, most gotos arn't really easy to use.

main advantage of goto would probably on the dimmer and harder to find stuff. on brighter and easier stuff, doing the searching manually is way faster.

big scopes with extremely long focal lengths go quite well with goto. small scopes, prolly u can already find most brighter and easier object that the scope can see.
