damn pity....you spend so much money, wait so long and in the end....
I only hope the Titan probe will not share the same fate...
that's the problem with cut backs. means no back up like the ill fated Beagle on Mars. of course, the genesis probe did have a backup but apparently, both the chutes did not open...oh well...

Isn't it sad that everyone was hoping that Genesis will bring back some valuable solar wind particles, thus providing us with some answers to some of the mysteries.
It is so sad to think that we will never in our lifetime find out the universe's mysteries, eg is it really an open or closed universe, etc.

nah i dun think it's gonna be a "never in a lifetime" thing, with every mission we're finding out more and more stuff and nasa seems to be up to alot recently.. they were hoping to be able to still get some particles out of the genisis capsule, haven't been reading up, anyone knows if they managed to?

Seems like NASA is still doing well, even with the Genesis capsule crash.

Had no idea you were a fan of Space 1999! Did you watch this show on its first run (which means you are my age ! ) or got interested during the repeat telecast? Any, just a request...can you reduce the image size of the Eagle in your signature ? that way, if you reply many times to a thread, others will not have to spend too much time scrolling down.
As for the recovery of the capsule, perhaps they should have designed it more like a glider, so at least the it can glide down should the chutes fail like what is happening now.....
I also sure they would have the intelligence to make out what stuff on the collector plates are sun stuff and what are desert sand...right?

Hi Rich,
Not sure if i've heard wrongly that nite while watching live telecast over the NASA website and at the same time watching CNN on tele, (correct me if i'm wrong), heard the commentators on CNN says becoz of budget constrain, they did not cater for a 2nd chute, cos that will impose more construction costs to Genesis, and never did they realised that it was this that costs them dearly (but the lesson I learned: never try to be too greedy to watch 2 telecast at the same time, the results are confusion for me ah ah). Lets hope that those particles will not be contamined by the crash! Have to wait patiently for the results.
Allow me to side track, sorry for the huge signature, I'll reduce it. Yes, I caught Space 1999 in the first run (isn't it great to know that there's somebody out there who remembers what was on the blob tube centuries ago?) I like the Eagle very much, it's fanstastic! I've wanted to buy from U.S. the model but it's too costly (can't find them locally either).
