Hi,
I think the moon will be very close to M45... around 2 degree between them this saturday night. Will try to take a image of both objects side by side... :D

Hope the weather will be clear.

Have a nice day.

Just back from WeiXing's session.
"Activated" by him at 12.30am. Arrival at 1.30am has been fairly bad with lots of clouds. But by 2.30 am, it cleared up and if not for the glare of the moon, observation would have been good inspite of a thin layer of high altitude cloud. Want to bunk off now, so will post a fuller report tomorrow.
BTW, tonight was also the first light for Coolcat's LXD55 (ex-Vincent Snr) under the new owner.

rich

btw, Orion and team are very clear right now and Saturn is up..!

ok...the session was more of a "trial" run instead of a full session.
In attendance was Weixing (with his usual 6" Newt) , Lily (Cool Cat with LXD 55 + Skywatcher 5" ), Elton (with 16 x50 Bino but minus his Teleport  ),
Carlogabino (with Nexstar 4 and Dad), Clemens (C5).

When I arrived , Coolcat was still trying to get her "new" LXD55 (ex-VinSnr) to work. None of us has any experience with the scope and even the auotstar is slightly different from my ETX's (notably it aligns from a German Equatorial mount making adjustment a tad more inconvenient). Also, oddly, Rigel is not in its alignment star database...strange. When we successfully aligned the autostar after several attempts, the goto did not put any object in its FOV (20mm eyepiece). Elton concluded that unlike the forkmounted ETX/LX90, this scope needed to be polar aligned to North and since we did not have a compass, that was not possible. In the end, we used it as a manual scope instead. Another dislike is the height of the scope. It was so tall that both Coolcat and I had to tip toe to peep through it closer to horizon (tall elton had no trouble!) .
CarloGambino was also having problems with his Nexstar4. He had problems aligning also and none of the objects he goto'd were in the FOV.
I was so busy with the LXD55 that by the time I was ready to help, he had to go home. If only Nexstar guru Samuel was there! Maybe next time.
Checked out Clemen's C5 but only briefly. Without a working goto and with the glare of the moon, we had to be content with the usual common objects like Orion nebula and M45. (next to the moon!)

Seeing was not too good. There was a layer of high altitiude clouds and
moonlight reflected from them meant we got very bad contrast in our FOV.
Objects looked washed out. We did surmissed that if the moon were not present, the observation would have been fairly decent. Overall, while the site was ok, I still prefered Dempsey where I can deploy next to my car. This site is some distance from the nearest car park and both drivers and non drivers will have to lug their equipment there....weixing has become some sort of an expert on this..!

Weixing provided the best views last night, having the bigger aperture and without goto problems!
Anyway, took some pics to "mark attendance". Carlogambino had left when took these...so he's not in the pictures..
