Anyone observed today?? Er I mean yesterday, 9th Dec..

Alright, this is for sharing of your observation experience. Or, if you are arranging gatherings, star-gazing expeditions or just want some company to go observing together, you can shout it out here.

Anyone observed today? The skies were great.. Orion is so clean and bright! It's one of the best skies I've seen in Toa Payoh despite the (VERY VERY VERY BAD :() light pollution.

Anyway Samuel and I was at the Toa Payoh Park for about 1.5hrs. Here are our observations:

M42: Very bright, nebulosity can be easily seen without using filters. At 60x the diagonal splits itself very distinctly, at 150x the diagonal is very big, and I could even push my scope optics to 300x (diagonal + 10mm ep + barlow)!

M45: Couldn't fit the whole thing in my scope view, but nonetheless bright and clear. I love clear skies :D

M41: This one has always been eluding me! Okay, those were cloudy skies, but I thought I could do better. I got this at first strike. Looks fabulous too.

Saturn: This was blocked by the trees at our usual haunt, so we had to move abit further to a bridge at the pond (Oh no, the water..) But saturn was worth the move, bright, yellowish. Samuel said he could see 2 or 3 moons, but I only saw one :? The image only turned slightly soft when I put in the (barlow+10mm) to bring Saturn up at 300x.

Castor (Alpha Gemini): I remembered that it's a double star! Went to check it out. At 60x, it wouldn't resolve properly (I think because the scope was shaky) and only those who know that it is a double star can see the "line" instead of "point". At 150x the star finally split into 2.

Other worthy things to note:
M78, nebula, as recommended by Samuel (tried but failed today)
Hm, I better do some research before going out again.

Hi,
Anyone observed today? The skies were great..
Too Bad... feel a bit unwell today, so take a night off :(
M45: Couldn't fit the whole thing in my scope view, but nonetheless bright and clear. I love clear skies
Not a problem for my 6" Newtonian. But I still feel that it look best through the finder scope. :P
M78, nebula, as recommended by Samuel (tried but failed today)
I try a few times in Singapore... but all fail. It is rated at magnitude 8, but I think because it is quite large, so the surface brightness is a lots lower than that. May be I should try using a higher magnification. Anyway, will try it next time when I observe.

Have a nice day.

ok, i did go obbing, skies is freaking gd during 11pm, but clouds started to come in ard 12pm. had to pack up and go home after that. did not bother much with the usual objects, was trying out new objects.

m35+ngc2158
located slighty west of the tip of orion's sword. 2 nice cluster side by side, m35 is so big, only slighty smaller than m41.

m93
located at puppis, this is one easy to find object(if u can located the star to start from). freaking small and dim. kind of look like a triangle.

m37
located somewhere in between elnath and theta auriga, just another boring star cluster. roughly the same size as m36, not much difference in brightness either.

m1
tried and failed. the starting location, zeta tauri could be located easily as it's shining quite brightly. scanned top left of it, nothing seen.

Sky was great last nite frm 8pm-12am. even with my *toy* scope, got to take a rough image of saturn. M42 was VERY clear. Pleiades was nice but M31 was hard to find.Did catch 1 or 2 meteors from Gemini.

if it was travelling at constant speed it should be satellite, if it was a streak it should be meteor.. in either case you were very lucky
anyway, wasn't so lucky, spent about 10min enjoying the view from my window but no meteor and too lazy to set up scope, so decided to try my digicam.. photo not bad actually, better than expected. but nothing much i can really get with normal cam though :(
