THE ULTIMATE PLANETARY SCOPE

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

I would say the APO. The contrast simply blows anything else(scope) on the earth away. There are so many advantages of Apos(esp for planetary) I wont mention anything here. Why some astronomers would trade in their SCT for a 5" Televue Apo +cash tells you something about apos, doesnt it?

Long focal-newts are very good for planetary observing, but a secondary obstruction is still a secondary obstruction. Furthermore, you would need a very good mirror to get high quality images. But, I wouldnt have to trade in my car/house/property/ for it :)

Hi,
8" APO
10" long focus newt
For the price of the 8" APO, I think you should be able to get a very good 28" Dob and it will win the 8" APO straight away in evey Category.

APO scope is something that everyone dream to own.... :k-inlove: but that doesn't mean that it won't need to follow the rules of physics.

Aperture still rules!! :k-lol:

Have a nice day.

8" APO gosh   , it will cost more than few thousand USD. Just a 4" TV102 or TaK FS102 costs around USD2K.. There are some chinese APOs coming up but then even they are not cheap...

I would say for the cost of 8" APO you should get a celestron 9.25" SCT and spend the rest on a good mount like the losmandy G11.. You would have an excellent system for planetary, DSO, astrophotography all you can think of in singapore for ages to come.. :D

I think a 10" F5.5 Mak Newt from Intes Micro will beat the 8" APO and the 9.25" SCT on planets.

Cost? Euro 8,000

BTW, how much does a 8" apo cost?

Hi,
BTW, how much does a 8" apo cost?
Let me see (taken from their website):
TMB 203(8") F9 OTA - US$23,900
Teleport 14.5" F4.5 Dob - US$7,800
14.5" F4.3 Portaball Dob - US$5,400
Starmaster 24" (Zambuto) Dob - around US$15,000

So do we really want a 8" APO??? :k-?:

Have a nice day.

10" f/5.5 (or longer) Newtonian with Mike Spooner or Zambuto mirror. CO must be less than 18%, at least 1/15th wave secondary. This reminds me of someone's scope :-)
