Anti-Piracy law's in effect from 1st Jan 2005

The law is coming into effect soon, will you stop downloading stuffs through p2p programs(etc, bittorrent, emule.....)? I will continue to d/l until a warning letter is received :-k-yeah: :k-evil:

I have absolutely no regards for this at all... I am still ripping, decrypting and burning original copyrighted dvds+distribution. Also, I participate actively in downloading copyrighted software from warez site(like supernova.org) and frequently ask lobang from malaysia to smuggle pirated cds(software) in for me and my friends... I also use p2p and share music(copyrighted) around freely... To me, the chances of getting caught is 0%, so I'm not worried at all

There has been quite alot of resistence and brick bats back in the US where the initiatives are taking place where people are saying the motion picture people did not learn from the audio people experience, i.e. they save alot of money by setting up legitimate downloads at reasonable prices instead of wasting millions on lawsuits that will force the entire community to go way underground. A few mentioned that their actions actually publicise the available of such resources to the majority of people who does not know they exist.
in anycase, singapore has had a very successful compaign against sls piracy and its practically non-existent there now. they moved on corporate people this year and next year, they are expected to target home users as well as part of a holistic approach to the "problem"..

yeah i remember the time where sls was full of pirated cd stalls... However, pirates are now setting makeshift stalls in neighbourhood HDB areas, but its quite hard to find them so you will have to be alert before they get raided or move away.

There are many ways they can know, for example, monitoring your data inflow and outflow for large bursts of data flow. Of course, this can be countered against, but there are many other ways too. For example bitorrent, they can even fake themselves as torrent downloaders, and since it's a direct connection to your computer they can find your address and do a raid. These are just a few simple ways, I'm sure the police have more elaborate plans.

I will stop download for a few months to "look at wind" first, then take action. haha..

If they really want to catch people using pirated software, they just need to go to any HDB block and check the computer of the resident... and I'm sure they will find at least 80% of the resident using pirated software.

Anyway, I think as long as you are not using it for commercial purpose and use it quietly, they won't come and bother you.

That's true. Currently in the US, they have the means to track you via your IP address but cannot take action in the US as its against their laws to reveal subscriber names. Do a search for "suprnova .org" and you can get quite a few articles on this subject. apparently, they track your usage pattern, eg, GB of download everyday which would be abnormal for regular surfing, etc.
Their authorities has mounted a multi-prong strategy. They are suing those they can catch and for those they can't , they hire hundereds of "sabotuers" whose job is to upload garbage as legitimate files to the torrent servers so you get frustrated getting "how to plant cabbages" video instead of the latest movie download. they are also uploading such multiple files so that the bandwidth would be quickly used up and result in slow access. interesting read..
