Found my 8' now need a non go to mount(Found!!!)

Post by jack_mav88 »

Hi everyone,

I have bought my 8" newtonian, thanks to weixing and coolcat!

Now I need a mount so that i can fix the scope to a full pier.

Hoping to find a non goto mount that is less than $500 or a dob base so that I can convert it to a dob.

Hope to join you all in the observation session soon!!!

At S$500, it is very diffcult to find a suitable mount for it... Too bad samuel just sell his EQ4 (chinese made Vixen GP clone) away.

Anyway, you can either get a Giro-2 Alt-Az mount from S$600-S$750 (exclude shipping) depend on your requirement from samuel ( http://www.harlequinastronomics.com/ )... check with him if your are interested. If the price is too high, may be you can make your own dob base. There are quite a few of guys in SingAstro that actuall built their own dob, just post a new thread in DIY section and they may be able to help you.

Have a nice day.

If you have no immediate plan for photography, you will have fun with dob-style star-hopping. It is easier to transport. And use money for good eyepieces, telrad, star charts, and binoculars... Enjoy :)

The eq-3 can't support a 8" newtonian right?

Hi,

The 8" Newtonian is too big for a EQ3-2 mount. A 8" F5 Newtionain OTA is around 8kg, so I think you need at least a EQ5/CG5 for visual use... or make yourself a dob base.

You may be can built a similar dob base that ariefm71 is using ( http://www.singastro.org/viewtopic.php?p=12977#12977 )

Have a nice day.
