Yes, I am against it too. One of the reasons is that it will cause even more light pollution in Singapore. :-)

Some study quoted a figure of 2% of the study population having some addiction problems. If the govt say they can handle the social impact of a casino, they should handle this 2% first.

Enough ranting for now...have to go to buy my 4D now :-P

government actually already wans to build...think everyone can see that
all the surveys and stuff....just propaganda i would say.
as for building one...hm...definitely bIg boost in economy...but social consequences i think the country is still too young to handle
so my stand here is mixed...would like for economic prosperity...but wouldn't like the social costs that will accompany it.

my 2 cents

Hmm... not too sure about casinos and gambling stuffs, but i wonder why places like Las Vegas does not need to worry about the addiction problems. Maybe Las Vegas is filled with filthy rich people? Also, another thing about the addiction thingy is that even with or without the casino, those addicted to gambling still can buy 4D and TOTO until they go broke what... :crazyeye:

Different culture my friend...

Americans look at casino as a place of entertainment. We look at it as a den for gambling.

Americas look at strip clubs as a place of art and relaxation. We look at it as a place of indecency.

Actually to build or not to build is the same. With the casino, Singaporean will have easy access to gambling. Without it, people with credit and debit cards can still go online to gamble. It is just that with a casino some of the money will flow into the government's account as tax. Just my thought.

I am for the building of the casino. Really, I think the matter has been blown out of proportion. I am sure most Singaporeans are mature enough to decide for themselves whether they want to step into a casino. Compulsive gamblers who can't afford to do so can be identified and placed on a restricted or banned access list; our national ID system makes this an easy task to do. Meanwhile, the rest of the population can get to enjoy the facilities, not to mention the thousands who would find employment in the casino resort.

I think there are those big ships with casinos that visit Singapore often right? I'm not sure, but I know my mum went on one once. Well even without a casino we still have "mobile casinos", so if access to one is that easy they might as well build one. I think so too that all these surveys and stuff are just "work" to make us think that the government is democratic and wants our ideas. They prolly already had quite enough confidence we'd vote for it anyway.

I think social issues are a nonissue, since we're already so hooked on other gambling stuff like 4D and toto anyway. I think we're mature enough to know that we should not gamble over the limits.

Actually, the government is already quite set to build the casino otherwise they would not have proposed in the first place. I think all those surveys and feedback session is to see if there is any real justification to abort it.
So far, the only opposition are centred on emotional/religious/political which really cannot hold water here.
Many argue about the bad influence and social cost but genting has been around for years and you don't see many gambling addicts in KL. The revenue that can be generated cannot be denied. Social cost can be controlled much like how drinking, smoking, etc can be controlled as well.
Anyway, let's see how they decide on Monday...

Hi,
May be they will come out with COG (Certificate of Gambling) and happily say "let the market force decide who can gamble... "... ha ha ha
:k-chuckle: :k-lol:

Anyway, will the casino improve our tourism?? May be they'll attract some, but I don't think it'll help much... Because they are just too many outstanding casino out there in the world, so what is so special about our casino???

By the way, now I understand why so many Artist need to perform all those dangerous tricks in NKF show... so that they can form a new subsidiary company to perform in the Casino!!! Ha Ha Ha...
:k-chuckle:

Have a nice day.
