I read in the S&T magazine that from 24 Jun to 26 Jun, the planets Saturn, Venus and Mercury will be very close together near the western horizon just after sunset. In fact, on 24 Jun, they may only be about 2.5 degrees apart, and thus all three planets can be magnificently viewed in the same field of view through a rich-field telescope. On 27 Jun, Venus and Mercury may be only 0.1 degrees apart!
As it will be quite low in the sky, observers will need to have a clear view of the western horizon, eg, Tuas ob site, and clear sky conditions to see it. Maybe someone can check whether it may be visible from the Boon Keng MRT site on Friday 24 Jun.
This would be a good opportunity for some photography, and for those who have not seen Mercury.

For this view, it should be Tuas South Ave 1 since it is next to the sea.It faces western sky directly with minimum obstruction. There are some barren flat land along the shore which apparently no sign of any indication who own it.rlow wrote:I read in the S&T magazine that from 24 Jun to 26 Jun, the planets Saturn, Venus and Mercury will be very close together near the western horizon just after sunset. Unfortunately timing on 24.06 (lelong party at Boon Keng), 25.06 (Wife D&D) and 26.06 (Wedding dinner) are all fully booked..
So it is tough for me to see it.Hope we dun have to wait long before such event?

Thanks Richard for the heads-up!
According to my software, the view should be caught just at sunset, without waiting for the sky to get dark. This is the view on 24 June:

[80% Steve, 20% Alfred] ------- Probability of Clear Skies = (Age of newest equipment in days) / [(Number of observers) * (Total Aperture of all telescopes present in mm)]

the west is heavily dense with hdb and buildings.
only way i figure you can see it is if you go up to the hdb highest floor

Hi,
I think the main problem will be cloud... The west side is always cloudy in the evening and the three planets will be only around 20 degree above horizon when the sun is setting, so I think it'll be most likely block by the cloud...
Anyway, hope the weather will be good for us to see it.
Have a nice day.

I would agree with weixing that the most important factor is having clear sky at the western horizon. Land-based obstruction towards the west can be avoided by heading to the westernmost part of Singapore, eg, Tuas South Ave 1. Anyone planning to go there? For this view, it should be Tuas South Ave 1 since it is next to the sea.It faces western sky directly with minimum obstruction.
