Maybe you can check with Kay Heem, as he previously wanted to sell his (riflescope) red dot finder. Perhaps you can make the adaptor as DIY seems to be much to your liking.

The only design I've seen require some woodwork that will be too troublesome for me..

How about a long sight-tube with luminous paint at one end? You can fit that on a standard 6x30 finder bracket for alignment.
