hi all
for those who do not want to buy a dry cabinet, perhaps this is a better alternative to the thirsty hippo.
no specs on how low it can go but the faq mentioned as long as 40% humidity.

De Humidifiers
Hi All,
I found another alternative worth trying.
It is a small power heater , available in 8,12 , 15 watts etc. , in the shape of a straight fluroscent lamp. It is meant as a de-humidifier to be used in wooden wardrobes to prevent fungus.
Input power is 220 V AC. The 8 W variety is sold in CK Tangs for 55 S$ on 3 rd or 2 nd level along with electrical appliances
Made in USA (???)
Probably worth giving a try if you are keeping large scopes in wardrobes or wooden cabinets.

yes...the info is not complete...the area of effectiveness is decribed in 2 dimension...but 5' is around 1.6m...that's alot.
Kochu : i know of the heater tubes but this one is truly portable. you charge it and then use it without external power. beats having to cut a hole and seal the gap in your cabinet....

Hi,
I think all those dehumidifier is only suitable if you seldom "open" that enclosed area. I've use it for quite sometime... I found it you need to "charge" it very often if you "open" that enclosed area often and the result is that the dehumidifier will "die" faster... I think I need to replace one of my dehumidifier soon...
By the way, the "big brother" also looks more interesting: http://www.eastpacificpl.com/Product_Petite.htm
Have a nice day.
PS: I'm thinking of putting one in my Newtonian OTA next time

That's pretty big isn't it?
Oh yeah! Remind me not to write msgs after 10 pm!
I have a similiar one that came with my drybox. I agree with Weixing - I generally have to 'recharge' it about once a week if I open the box 2-3x a week.
It's just too humid here...
Cheers!

I actually have one of these Petite Dehumidifiers. It needs to run off AC power, so it can't really replace the rechargeable dehumidifiers since you still have to cut a hole, and not only that, you still need to empty the water in the collection tank every so often, otherwise it will cease to operate properly. I think it can be modfied (not under warranty) to drip the water out through a pipe, but then it becomes quite "lecheh" already :-)weixing wrote:Hi,
