The Sun God has answered my prayers! (this is long!)

Post by qu1xs1lv3r »

WARNING: THIS IS LONG! my first OB rant!

oh what a night!! it actually cleared up!!! but guess what?!?!? this night is totally jinxed!!!

first i end up babysitting tonight!!!!!!! i had to do a very hasty observation (of course didnt leave the child alone... asked my flatmate to take over!!!!)

oh it doesnt stop there... so off i went... at 1130pm..

first im always confused which way is east and west... when im inside the house i can tell which way is which.. but when im out the house i get totally disoriented!!! so i kept walking thinking i should reach the open field near the mrt... without knowing i was freaking walking west wards!!!! so i kept looking at my star chart and was very perplexed no to see mars.. oh btw.. since its almost midnight mars should be pretty high up!!! being quite late i have be wary of my surroundings.. but not so bad since 3 kids got interested in what i had... when i finally found mars.. off i went and pointed the scope towards mars!! the kids were so eager to have a look!

frustrations of all frustrations!! i couldnt align the damn thing!!! for some reason iv forgotten how to find something by jz following the tube's direction! so decided to move further back coz mars was sandwiched between two hdb blocks... and yey! i saw the moon!! so pointed the scope there and aligned the finder....

by this time its already past midnight and i kept getting a call fm my flatmate... i needed to go back.. the three kids has gone as well since its way past bedtime!! jz took a very quick peek at mars.. and started to disassemble...

started walking back.. reached the playground (which was pretty much dark) and guess what!!! that was the best spot for a quick ob!!!! mars, pleaides, moon, orion was all in view!!!!! and the sky was really clear!!! then i realized damn this is west!!! why the hell did i walk all the way to the other end when i could hav jz crossed over and set up there!!

i was about ready to kill myself!!

i swear tomorrow better be clear!!! i havent gone obbing in like 4 weeks!!!!!!!!

this sux!!

il make a new topic under equipment frustrations!!!

[glow=red][shadow=yellow] oh please Mars God of War.. I beg thee!! all the Gods in the Skies!! All the Gods of all religions!! Let it be clear tomorrow and on Mars Watch (oh and everynight too if possible!!!) !!!!![/shadow][/glow]

hehe! just to rub some salt in.

Yeap, last night was one of the clearest night in a long time. I starting to ob from 7.30 till 1 am! The moon came up only about 10.30pm and so the sky was not flooded by the moonlight.

I also want tonight to be clear.

Observed the north? polar cap and horizontal swath of land. Wow, Mars is almost double the size of when I last saw it, but the whole south side is featureless! Dust storm?
