Hi,
I'm thinking of getting a 5" refractor also... got bitten by refractor bug, but no much budget left after I buy a camera lens on friday...
Anyway, McGill got a Sky-Watcher 120mm F5 refractor at a very good price, but I hesitate because it don't have the adjustable objective-lens cell, so it'll be difficult to collimate the scope. Also, it don't perform well at high power, so I'm now thinking of getting a used Sky-Watcher/Orion 120mm F8.3 Refractor if I got the money.
By the way, are you still looking to get the Antares 127 F6.5 Achro?? I wonder how heavy is it??
Have a nice day.

yes..the views on my ex-ED80 (now in Australia with Tan Guan...sigh...) was breathtaking. Changed my views on apo refractors but then again, I bought this babe from Vincent in the first place, so its obvious he has moved on...80mm will not be able to satisfy him...that is why he asking for 6".
Vince - I think John Teh has Samuel's 6" Vixen..he tried selling it unsuccessfully on astromart some time back..maybe he still has it?

Hi,
Anyway, the Vixen 4" refractor view was great... the refractor bug first bite me when I saw through it last year.

I suggest don't take those F/5 refractors. Might be portable, but you need to make sure you are limited to DSOs and not too high magnifcation.jermng wrote:WX, how much is McGill selling the 120mm F/5? Do they have the F/8.3? Although that seems abit long ah ... =)
If you are into planets, you will be dissapointed. The colour is not the only problem, but as you go higher mag, the the inability to focus all the colours will make your images hazy.
Get the f/5 only if wide field , low mag views is what you want

Hi,
Got an offer for the SkyWatcher 120mm F8.3 refractor... quite reasonable. Now is whether to change or not to change. Must sell my current scope (if able to sell) if want to change... one scope policy...
Hmm... still resisting the refractor bug virus... ha ha ha
