Anyone had the Meade 56mm 2" Super Plossl??

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

Anyone had the Meade 56mm 2" Super Plossl??

Post by weixing »

Hi,
Anyone had the Meade 56mm (52 deg AFoV) Series 4000 Super Plossl 2" eyepiece?? Thinking of getting one, but hope to try out on my scope first before decide.

I currently had the GSO 42mm (65 deg AFoV) SuperView 2" eyepiece... not a bad eyepiece.. give me around 2.7 degree TFoV, but due to the edge distortion (I think this is normal for a low cost 5 elements wide field eyepiece and should be ok for F10 or slower scope), I think the usable TFoV is around 2.4 deg.

Anyway, I'm thinking using this eyepiece as a star hopping and viewing wide field objects. The Meade 56mm eyepiece will enable me to get a TFoV of around 2.9 deg and since it is not a wide field design, the edge distortion may not be as bad as the 42mm SuperView.

So anyone had use this eyepiece before or got other suggestion and comments??

Thanks and have a nice day.

PS: Please don't ask me to get the TeleVue eyepiece... they are just too expensive for me to buy and used (just want to enjoy the sky and not to worry about my eyepiece... =P =P =P )

Perhaps you can get the UO MK-70 Konig. It is 40mm with 70 degree FOV. It is excellent for slow scope F10 above. I think F8 should be ok..that is what I read on the review. However for F6 and below the aberration is quite serious. I'm using it as my widefield EP and for my F6 dob as a finder EP. The price is around 300 plus SGD.

I just sold my UO MK70 due to its mediocre edge performance on my f/7.0 refractor. But it is a really good ep for wide field, the glass is cool and clean, the coatings are also good. I sell it is because I've got another 2" inch ep that is sharp to edge for f/7.0 scope. 8-)

The UO MK-70 40mm works fine for my f/7 refractor.

Just my 2 cents, I would think 2" 40mm or 2" 30mm wide field eyepieces would be better off than a 2" 56mm ep.
