Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

How to collimate WO Megrez?

Post by anat »

I believe that someone may have an experience in installing the Megrez lens cell or collimate it. How can we collimate the scope if it is out of collimation?

Thank you very much.

use a flat mirror on a vertical wall. Mount the megrez on a mount and then rest the dewshield flat on the mirror. Meaning now your OTA is perpendicular with the mirror. The dewshield should cover part of the mirror.

Use a bubble level and make sure your OTA is level.

Now place a sight tube (with crosshairs) at the focuser end.

If the collimation is dead on, you should see only a single image of the crosshair. If the colimation is out, you will see a double image of the crosshair. Adjust the lens cell or the focuser until you see a single image of the crosshair.

Once that is done, do a star test to confirm your collimation.

Thank you. Are there collimation screws at the Megrez lens cell?

Hi,

I think what he mean is how to adjust the Megrez lens cell for collimation... May be he can't find any collimation screw on the lens cell.

By the way, denebman and ariefm71 should be able to help you on how to collimate the Megrez.

Have a nice day.

try to refrain from fixing it yourself. my old Megrez-II semi-apo doesn't seem to have collimation screw outside, some say u can remove the friction tape (foamy and stubborn) to expose the screws but I didn't try. there is a good link on cloudynight forum that shows it step by step. (i can't remember, pls search a post started by "owm")

If there is no screws on the lens cell, then just shim the focuser.
