Hi all,
Took this image of M42 (3-inch refractor) from my balcony sometime last week when the weather was more stable using the CCD camera for the first time. I am really amazed with what the CCD chip can do for Singapore skies. Also I would like to thank Jean-Yves for his invaluable experiences shared during the course of purchase to the installation phase. I will still keep the D70, but will try to shoot DSOs in SIngapore using the CCD in H-alpha narrowband wavelength (just arrived) hopefully sometime soon....once the weather clears again.
Details:
2 stacks of 300 seconds each (unfiltered)
1 stack of 60 seconds for core region (unfiltered)
1 stack of 30 seconds for core trapezium stars (unfiltered)
Softwares: CCDOps, CCDSoft, PS, IRIS.
PS: Was bathing when the images were captured! :-o

Hi,
Anyway, why are there diffraction spikes on the bright stars since you are using a 3-inch refractor?? :?: :?: Hmm... don't tell me you put a cross on your refractor objective to create the spike?? Ha ha ha
Have a nice day.
Wow... You setup your EQ mount on your balcony and still be able to polar align on the balcony?? :salute: :salute:Took this image of M42 (3-inch refractor) from my balcony sometime last week when the weather was more stable using the CCD camera for the first time.

yes weixing, you are right. i used two bookmark gold strings for the diffraction spikes to assist in focusing actually. thereafter, i just thought..may as well, include it into the light frames. i am trying to set up quickly these days as clear sky duration is very short and add to the restrictive view from the south-facing balcony. window period for shooting M42 for example is very short. My fasting personal time of taking the G11 out, setting up the CCD camera, drift alignment, carry battery, carry laptop, carry chairs, wires, eyepieces, refractor, is 9 minutes. trying to go shorter if possible....
