Here is a photo I took at about 7:05pm today (12/1/06), the 6th consecutive rainy day. I think we got a year's worth of rain and clouds in this past week. Never seen this before, even for January.
In the photo, you can see a band of very low level atmospheric clouds, about the lowest I've seen in Singapore. The middle sections of UOB Plaza 1 and OUB Plaza are all covered by the clouds, as is much of Raffles City's main tower. Based on the height of the UOB/OUB towers of 280m, I estimate the clouds to have been at about the 140m or 460 foot level, or about the 35th floor level.
BTW, this evening at around 8pm, I saw stars at long last for the first time since Friday night (when I was at the Bedok carpark rooftop). I've not seen sunshine in Singapore since Friday (6 consecutive days). I was delighted to look at parts of Orion through my bino. Even a solitary Betelgeuse looks magnificent!
For the record, it rained for about 21 hours non-stop from 3am on Sunday morning to about midnight on Sunday-Monday. Must be something of a local record. I suspect all this rain and clouds are entirely due to the imminent installation of a large aperture telescope in some condo developemnt.
I was wondering and wondering what it could be. A Takahashi? Not that I'm aware of. Fujinon? Nope, none has just arrived. Nagler? Na, not enough. Then I realised it had to be something very special....
