Where to get 20x80 binos?

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

Where to get 20x80 binos?

Post by jermng »

Hi all,
I'm looking for a pair of large binos. Maybe the Oberwerk 20x80 or Garrett 20x80 or something similar. Anyone knows if these can be purchased for a reasonable price locally? Or should I just order it online? I'm looking for something close to the price range of the Garett 20x80 which is about USD$169. Thanks!

Hi Arief,
Yes I have seen one before and i already have the necessary mount and tripod for it.
Question is, is it available locally for a reasonable price?

Someone has been reading CN reports, eh? Heh..

Enjoy your binos, whichever one you choose!

Cheers!

Hi Jeremy,

I have a seldom used 20x80mm bino for sale at S$150.

It is similar to this one which is selling for US$229:
http://www.bigbinoculars.com/2080d.htm

The bino I have is branded as Oberwerk but I'm not sure whether it is exactly the same thing, bec Oberwerk has changed their product range.

It is stated to be "Fully Multi-coated" and having "Bak-4" prisms. However, I would say from the looks of it, that the objectives are fully multi coated, but the eyepieces are not: just fully coated.

The bino has one adapter socket. I also have a sturdy tripod adaptor for sale together with the bino at $15 more. Together, the set-up is fairly stable, though not very. Damp down time from a knock is about 3-4 seconds. However, once it damps down, the image is nice.

The bino is in good condition. Optics are clean, though the eyepiece coatings have some light worn out marks. Well collimated.

Eye relief is very good. Apparent field is very nice, about 60 degrees, so it gives a big picture.

If you prefer something with better optics and a sturdier mounting, look here:
http://www.grandeye.com.hk/pc_bino.htm

Including shipping and remittance costs, that would cost you about S$220+.

Slight amendment: I've tested the damp down time again on a steadier Manfrotto 410 geared head. From a hard knock, damp down time is less than 2 seconds. When shifting the target being viewed, the damp down time is about half a second.

Bino comes with front and back end caps, strap and soft case.
