Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

Goto for WO Zenithstar 66mm

Post by Airconvent »

I wonder how easy it is to buy this setup, and mount the WO ZS 66 series to it for goto function? I would probably need to have an adapter made but that would have made the set up heavier...any ideas?
thanks

Check out the Meade DS-2090AT-TC 90mm goto refractor... :) I bet it will malfunction right out of the box but for the price its worth some tinkering to get it to work right. :)

Hi CC,
I think the Quasar DS-2070AT refractor would have been more appropriate, being 70mm but I do suspect the 66's ota tube is bigger than the cheap 70mm refractor on the DS-2070..

I couldn't resist and just bought a DS-2090AT-TC from the Meade outlet store. We shall see how it performs ..... Could I be so lucky as to get a Meade goto that performs flawlessly out of the box?? :)

wow! more toys again. do let us know how it performs CC.
If it works well and when you grow tired of it (probably after 1 week!), I may be interested in buying the goto mount for my ZS66..
Hey..why not bring it back for the Singastro lelong in Apr 06?
And when you do sell, please please please sell them at Vince Snr prices!!

I used the Celestron controller once and by now have forgotten how to use it but I am very sure I will have no problem readjusting back to the Meade 494 (which can be flashed to a 497..heh heh).

I will be bringing this thing back to Singapore if it works as advertised. Maybe swop out the aluminium tripod for a sturdier one and mount my WO 80mm FD on it. :) BTW the WO scope has been giving me amazing views of Saturn; the fine-focuser is a pleasure to use and really helps to acheive the best focus.

Hi
also a good solution to use small telescopes on a GOTO mount is to take a Celestron GT mount and fit it with other small scopes can be carryed. As you can see here, the mount can take a small Intes Micro M500 Telescope. Image

Another example for fitting the Celestron GT GOTO mount is this one, where you see a LOMO Astele 133,5

Hi,
Look interesting..., but can it clear the base of the GT mount when the scope point at high angle or at zenith??

Have a nic eday.

Hi Weixing

yes, there is no problem to point the scope on zenit, why the mount-dove-tail is long enough to put the scope as high enough to can point the highest angle. And I didn´t belive myself, even I saw it, the power of the small Celestron GT is strong enough to carry ths scopes. The 2.nd variation with the LOMO Astele 133,5 is a bit heavier, but also there is no problem for the mount. Well, this combination shall be chosed when you want to take a scope with you, in your vacancy. It is a convenable solution for this.
