Noise Cancelling Headphones to Recommend?

Post by kayheem »

Hi all,

I am looking for a pair of reasonable noise cancelling headphones e.g. the Philips HN060. Does anyone have any experience with this or other brands or models that they can comment or recommend?

I am not an audiophile, so I do not need the high end ones. I just need one to use with my MP3 player in public places to cut down the ambient noise.

Better still, does anyone have a pair that I can try out?

Thanks!

Hi Kay Heem,
I swear by the Sony 7509 for all my musical and mixing appliations .. but it might look weird if you're using it with your MP3 player in public. A cheaper model but still the industrial standard would be the Sony 7506, but both are not marketed as commercial items. More for sound engineering and live music applications.

You might wanna try them out or take a look at them though, to see if you like the look. I don't have mine at home - it's in my studio, else you can try them out.

If you want earphones, the Sony ear buds are a good choice, try the MDR-EX71 series .... quite affordable at between $70-$90 .. I dunnoe exactly how much now.

Or if you want the "APO" of commercial earphones, take a look at the Etymotic ER6i .... you can get it for bout $220 at some audio shops.

If I were to choose, I would go for the Sony Earbuds .. it's like a semi-apo, I can't justify the price to get a true triplet fluorite APO - like the $600 Shure earbuds ... hee hee ... custom made to your ears - you gotta go for a
"fitting" then wait 2wks to a month before they deliver the phones to you . :)

No experience with Phillips though ...

Hope this helps ...

You can get them from most audio shops ... last time I looked, there's an electronics shop at Bugis Juntion Level 2 which has it but I sus[ect most well stocked shops should carry them. Or to be safe, Sim Lim Square .. if one shop doesn't have, you can always go to the next one. Which MP3 player are you using it with? If you wanna get the white oens, gotta hunt abit ... iPod and Zen users all rush to get the white ones for some reason ... :)

If you wanna try before going to a shop, I've got a pair. You can try them out and ob at the same time one of these nights .... where do you ob anyway??? :)
