Takahashi's new triplet apochromat

Post by rcj »

Hi all,
Noticed that Takahashi has just released the first of its new TSA series of apochromatic refractors. You can see it here:
http://www.buytelescopes.com/product.asp?pid=10529

The first of this series is the TSA102, which is believed to less than a third of colour aberration than its older cousin, FS102. Comes with retractable dew shield and can use the TOA flattener to yield a f6 (From default f8)...

anyone gettin one?

Furthermore I feel the mechanics of Tak scopes are beginning to lag behind the quality of those new OTAs being brought out by WO and competitors.

The price in Japan is about US$2000. I think the price is very good. It is just slightly more than the price of WO ZS105 (US$1700). I found from my previous Megrez triplet fluorite apo that the crayford focuser is easier to be out of collimation because of many moving parts. And it is difficult to solve. Now I like a good rack and pinion focuser :)

Wow didn't know that tak prices are that much lower in Japan. In terms of focusers, I like the feel and smoothness of the WO dual-speed focusers best, followed closely by TV with Tak a distant third. Somehow Tak focusers don't feel so precise to me... And the painted OTA... eeks :) (sour grapes) Maybe I will be most happy with Tak optics in a WO OTA haha :)

Japanese products are usually cheaper in Japan (except camera lenses). Sometimes, a used GPDX+SS2K shows up at about US$800-900.

I found one test report for your information. The strehl ratio is amazing.
