Lunar Picture without any filter!

Post by boothee »

Dear Friends,

Picture without filter looks much brighter and more details than filtered one. But some areas overexposed. Have any idea how to make not to overexposed?

Here is one of my image without filter . . . .

is this taken by a digital camera or DSLR? if yes, next time find an exposure that will not wash out any highlights at all. It will be easier to "brighten" it up rather than the process one which is already having washed out regions to dim them down without looking too "artificial". If you are using a DSLR in partiucular, a helpful hint is to study the histogram of the image taken. The "lopsided hill shape profile" should be leaning towards the left end rather than the right end. If it is at the right end, it is too bright.

Dear Friend,

I use Made in China Web Cam. But I'll study histogram. And try your method. Nice touch up! Thank you very much!

Cheers !!!

no problem my friend! BTW, imaging with the webcam is also intuitive...what capture software are you using? do you do an AVI and then stacking for this image? From what I have learnt, it is better to underexpose your image seen on the screen a little when doing AVI capture....the stacking in softwares like Registax will "tune up" the brightness of the various features thereafter...so if you start with a "properly exposed" AVI sequence, you will have washed out highlights in the resulting final image...my 2 cents!

Dear Friend,

Now I understand what you mean. I use K3ccdTools for captureing and I use to capture AVI and stack after that. Yes I use Registax for Processing. I use Maxlm DL for Mosaic. IC I can't lower my exposure less than 1. So I must use some kind of filter! I have home made IR Pass filter! ;O)

Anyway, thanks again!

I'll try again and let you see my result. But I believe I could restart only after March as I have an exam to sit end of this month.

Clear Skies !!!
