Anyone have any feedback for the Vixen ed115s, i saw one at Mcgill.

Luiming, you hear anything good about it? It is a Doublet APO.

cheeyiun,

Sorry I have not got any on hand experience about Vixen 115ED. If it is a doublet apo, I don't think it optically matches the performance of a good triplet apo.

I did a side by side comparison of TV85 (a very good doublet) and TMB85 (stepped down from tmb115), I found that the tmb still outshines on brightness, sharpness and contrast. If I were to get another apo, I would choose a triplet for sure. (tmb152, dreaming  )

With the price of the new WO ZS110 approaching that of the ED115S, I would go for the ZS110 as it has gathered some good reviews lately.

Cheers!

My gut feeling says the Vixen 115ED won't come close the performance of your FLT

Yes arief, my feelings are the same...as Tom Trusock says in his review ( The flt-110 tec type oil filled triplet ) takes no prisoners when compared with literally any APO of the same size and even some larger ones....

Unfortunately WO has decided to change the new FLT-110 to a 110 TMB air space triplet to save some cost and made their FLT-110 more afordable. The TEC oilspace triplet is simply to costly to manufacture.

My gut feeling tell me that the old Meade 127ED is even betetr than this for lesser money

The Meade ED series are really underated scopes. They are better than what most think.

If you look at one of those refractors, the Meade AR6 possess one of the best money for refractive aperture, even though it is not a APO, and i have seen some very impressive astrophotos from it...

The other is celestron C6R...

Kochu will know.
