Mars as big as moon on Aug27th?

Post by soulfrost »

some guy emailed my dad claiming that mars can be seen clearest on aug 27. and supposedly can be seen for the entire mth of auguest. i aint sure if its a lie or not, thats why i posted here.

er.. somehow im unable to post the pps .-.

whatever it is heres a transcript of whatever i manage to remember:
mars will be seen from aug 1 - end aug. peak on aug 27.
mars will be the same size as the moon to the naked eye
such things will not happen till year 228something.
their claim: mars will be near to earth by 34,649,589 miles.
attain at a magnitude of -2.7 and appear at some 25.11 arc-seconds wide, at a modest 75 power magnification.
is claimed to be up by 1030 pm in the east, etc...

so... for all that, is it even possible?
im doubting it though. especially since its only a few years (1 or 2?) back when we can actually see mars as a red dot in the sky and everyone grabbing their telescopes to see it( tis was the same event that caused me to own a pretty .. normal telescope.)

er.. answers and theories most appreciated , i guess.
comments too.

I remember reading something like that on my <Planet and Star> field guide but with a big different:

In the book:
mars at ??x magnification will be the same size as the moon to the naked eye
On the email version:
The words "at ??x Magnification" was left out.

?? = I forgot the exact value, will check it out.

Hi!

Hannah has completed a brochure on the Mars Hoax 2006. Take a look here:

Thanks Hannah!

Thanks Hannah for the pamphlet. If Mars were as large as the Moon as seen from the telescope, I think the magnification has to be greater than 1000x.

If Mars really as a big as the moon using naked eyes, I don't think I want to stay around and watch.

I will run for my life!
