doggy language?
just heard a dog's barks triggering another dog to bark and was just wondering if dogs understand each other??
A dog saw a man making some noises triggering another man to make a noise. Noticing a pattern, the dog posted a question at www.animalphilosophy.com .
When a cat saw the post, she said she noticed the same pattern with birds. When one bird calls, another will respond with a call. This triggered a long line of posts on the forum from all the other animals.
It was noticed that most animals have similar patterns of calls for mating, warning against danger, calling out to their young etc.
Sadly, due to server outages at zfhost, www.animalphilosophy.com finally crashed and all that precious information was lost.
Up till today, no one knows for sure the conclusion of that thread. Scientists have been researching animal calls for a long time but most are still trying to recover data from that forum, which is why so many people are going into IT, hoping to recover that data.
Many people are cursing the elephant who did not backup and archive the forum - the responsibility was given to him because it was assumed that an elephant never forgets. Little did they realise that the elephant was too busy acting in shows for Animal Planet and the Discovery Channel.
In trying to apologise, the elephant made a pot of tea to offer to everyone - to appease them. However, before he could offer it to them, the angry scorpion attacked him. Shocked and afraid, he poured the hot tea on the scorpion, scalding the scorpion's chest, giving him a red spot above his heart forever.
The elephant left the tea pot and ran away. That's why you see the tea pot in saggitarius always next to the scorpion. The elephant has ran way to Mersing and can only be seen near that region drinking milk.
OK enough nonsense, it's 6pm at last!! Time to get off work and go home!!
Conclusion, I don't know if dogs understand each other ....

Dogs bark for various reasons:
1. Alert/warning - "Look out!"
2. Territorial - "Keep away!"
3. Identification - although they identify each other better via smell
4. Excitement
Each of these reasons can trigger a chain of barking... for various different reasons. The only way to differentiate the cause is to listen to the length, pitch and frequency of the barks, and look at the posture of the dog when they are barking.
Cheers!
