wonderful... but I think it will never happen here, the first question from Gov is "light off for Star Gazing??", how can that help singapore economy and who will be responsible if road accident increase that night.

Yes I agree with Sinhoe that it is a great fantastic idea but unfortunately it will never materialise in Singapore....

I remembered during Comet Hale Bopp's peak appearance some skyscrapers in Tokyo cooperated with the local astronomers to switch off their entire building lights.
I doubt it helped much. But it was a nice gesture!

its easier to do it in iceland as their population and built up area is small.
also, clear skies there...

Quite pointless to try in SG right now. No light but still got a layer of smoke from Indon forest fires blanketing the skies.
Overall a good attempt to get people to enjoy the night sky.

There is something singapore can do.
Open up a small corner at P.Tekong during weekend for stargazing. Best with a "red light" mamak stall selling teh tarik and prata... am I dreaming??

For those rarely-used roads in the ulu areas of Singapore, perhaps those auto-sensor lamp posts could be installed...?
Wonder if any SingAstronomers would be "astro-hardcore" to visit Iceland so as to experience this 1st hand...
