looking forward in living in singapore...

hi guys... im really new in the astronomy hobby, ive only started reading about a month ago. i live in a very dark neighborhood so i was pretty excited to start. im from the philippines by the way... i was about to buy my first bino, when i found out that i was going to work in singapore. i was pretty much dissapointed(in terms of the hobby) because i know singapore is small and i thought that it is very light poluted. so just when i was about to loose hope in my astronomy career, i found this site. boy, was i relieved! i can't tell you enough how happy i am. so i started reading most of the posts in the forum, and i really learned a lot.

i just wanna say thank you and i hope that non-singaporeans like me are welcome in singastro.

i plan on getting the bargain 10x50 binos on mcgill together with the planisphere when i get there. any tips you can give this aspiring amateur astronomer is very much appreciated! again thanks and more power to you guys!

I think you would be very much dissapointed with the skies here if you are from Philipines. Nevertheless, you are welcome to join in any of the observation sessions here.

I hope you can get used to the life here. we are all living in a matrix.

Yes, you'll be dissapointed by the skies here compared to your home, but the good thing is that travel to darker spots around Singapore can be convenient. Do get a bino and enjoy the sights from the Philipines before you come over here... !

chrisyeo: thanks for the advice, i checked the link and it is helpfull. my problem in getting the binos here is that there's no selection at all... or im not looking hard enough hehehe. the cheapest that i can get is the super zenith. most of the other brand is just too costly for me to buy now.

do you guys know the brand 'super zenith'? cause that's the only binos here that i can get really cheap. i was thinking of getting the cheap binos here first to enjoy the philippine sky before going to singapore, and then splurge on the better models when i get to singapore. any thoughts? thanks

Hi Mandaragit,

There is no hurry to get a bino, with the haze and all that. Why not just join the obs sessions and see the various equipment available before making up your mind?

Or you can put up a WTB in the Buy and Sell forum. You never know what you will find!
