Another good night

Post by cataclysm »

Recent late afternoon showers will ocassionally brings out cloudless night sky with exceptional clarity. My 2nd take on M42 on 25th Nov/Sat is such a night. And this time round, the Moon did not spoil the show. To combat light pollution, beside using LPR filter, I experimented with OIII filter as well, in order to bring out as much nebulosity as possible. Here is my set up: TV Genesis SDF with C90 piggyback as manual guide scope, GM8 and Canon 350. The exposures were as follows: 10x90s @1600, 10x120s @800, 7x120s @400 and 6x120s @800 with OIII filter. With a total exposure of approx. 1 hour. Images were stacked and processed with ImagesPlus software.

very nice, well done...
You can try one with less nebulosity, and try to photo the trapezium..and hopefully the 5 th star " e ". i have been trying to locate the 5th star for a while.

Attached example, credit to anglo-australian observatory.

I had tried masking method to blend in the trapezium without much success. It looks too fake. Probably needs to brush up my image processing skill.

Thanks
