Dear Singastro Forumers,
I have a C8 with a fork mount that I posted up for sale some time ago. It was then I discovered a spot of fungus on the glass, which has since turned off any prospective buyers. Currently I'm too busy to make good use of this scope and my folks are nagging at me to get rid of it as it is taking up a lot of space in the house.
I truly dread having to dispose this scope with the garang guni man and am wondering if anyone is interested to adopt the scope or have any contacts to schools or astro clubs that would welcome a donation.

Why not just clean off the fungus? Anyway, you can 'park' your scope at my place. Later if anyone wants to own it, they can get it from me.
Alternatively, you can sell it at a low price and I'm sure someone will grab it!

If someone would volunteer to clean it, I can offer the telescope to a special school near my house. I am sure the kids there will be thrilled to look at the moon and planets during their occasional overnight camping sessions.

Alternatively you can have it cleanse and recollimated by Astro Scientific for a few hundred bucks and it will be good as new. My C9.25 was similarly attacked by Fungus and I had it cleanse.
If the scope is still in working condition, it may be worthwhile to salvage it for a few hundred dollars.
After cleaning, it may be a good idea to keep it in a cool dry container or dehumidifier cabinet.

Cleaning the corrector lens on the outside is not a problem. You can do it yourself. But if the fungus is on the inside of the corrector lens, removing the corrector lens entails some precautions and experience. If there is someone who has the experience to do that and then recollimate for you foc, why not? This wonderful offer should not be missed.
IMHO I think junking a working scope is more expensive than paying some money to have it cleaned and restored to good condition.
May be you could sell it after that.
Alfred.
