Jupiter movie on APOD

Post by chrisyeo »

Today's APOD image is quite amazing...! Details on Ganymede are visible. I'm really curious what scope was used to capture this. Whatever is doable in Australia must certainly be doable in Singapore!

wow and wow again! You can actually see surface details on the moon!
Are we sure this is really taken from a ground based telescope?
I don't remember seeing HST have such details before...

I know Mike. He uses a 10" Chinese Dob on RoundTable platform to capture most of his planetary pics. See his setup here: http://www.roundtableplatforms.com/wst_page2.php

Looks like he used the following equipment:

Scope and camera: 12" newt on EQ6, DMK21AF04 + 5x powermate. Approx 450 frames from each channel were stacked. Processing in Registax, AstraImage and Photoshop.

Wow.. if only I could get images like that one day..

Yes, still imaging is going out of fashion now.. it's motion astroimaging!

I believe the APOD video clip was not a single video shot. It was created from a series of stacked and strong ps'ed images. I just had confirmation that Mike still used his Guansheng Dob to capture the pics. He's using an EQ6 now instead of the roundtable platform.

Just a proof that you don't need expensive gears to capture amazing planetary images. The key is aperture and IP skill.

I agree with you! That video is an animation of a stacked pictures. I found some other's animation on other sites too.

Above animation is a really good one! I wish one day I could do that

Cheers!!!

Yap... Totally agree! :D

Anyway, I'm trying very hard to prove that you don't need very expensive equipment to get decent DSO image too...

Have a nice day.
