Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

Hi all, what do you think of the ATIK 16HR camera? I think its probably the cheapest Megapixel monochrome CCD camera.

Starlight Xpress has a camera, which I think uses the same chip. The difference between the 2 is that, ATIK is only USB 1.1 and probably lousier cooling. The price difference is quite big!

Thanks for looking.

The ccd camera using a DSLR chip is getting cheaper. QHY8 has produced very good results.

It costs about USD1500

QHY has a Super HAD CCD ? mmm.... i tot HAD is a Sony Proprietary product and it says it's a 1/1.8" CCD. not DSLR sized. Tech specs are so confusing.. and that costs 1.5k USD.. isn't it cheaper to buy a DSLR instead?

QHY looks good. Hmm DSLR uses CMOS sensors rather than CCDs. But can't seem to find monochrome camera information. One shot colour is nice but a monochrome one allows H alpha at full resolution and RGB resolution higher than one shot colour cameras of the same chip size.

The advantages over DSLRs are that:
1) The chip is cooled.
2) The output file is in a FIT format
3) There is no aggressive IR filter

Hello guys, the QHY8 uses a 1.8inch CCD.
