CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Jupiter May 23th 2007 - 17:16 UT

Post by aquillae »

hi guys, I had chance to use my scope again last night :D

and since i live at the company dormitory, i showed Jupiter and some DSOs (omega centauri, lagoon nebula, etc) to my coworkers. For most of them (hmm i think all of them) , it was their first time to views those celestial objects.

i also took some jupiter movies using my webcam. i haven't done any webcam imaging for 3 years  (last one was march 2004), so it was quite a challenge to center Jupiter on the screen with diff. magnifications, refocus, and getting used to the setting again.

here's a quick result (about 600 frames stacked), i didnt bother to select the frames manually since I didnt have enough data and seeing condition was pretty good. I loaded the *.avi file on Registax, stacked the frames, resample 2x and saved the image for further processing in Photoshop.

Image

spec: TOA130 (5.1" refractor) @ f/38.5 (Powermate 5x), Toucam Pro, Registax4, and Photoshop.

can't wait for next session to play around with diff. settings :)

Nice image and colours look real. Looks like what Jupiter would look like in the eyepiece.

thanks a lot guys :D , i hope it's not too dim on your monitor screen.

btw, i processed another version (this one went through wavelet 1,2,3 on Registax4 before I processed it using Photoshop). Not sure which one is better, but the first version looks more natural.
