star chart vs stellarium

Post by vare2 »

Hi everyone, as a newbird in astronomy, I've been using the interactive sky chart from Sky and Telescope as well as stellarium to navigate my way across the sky. One thing I've noticed is sometimes the position of planet and moons on the sky chart and stellarium are different, even when both are set to the same location, time and magnitude of stars. Are there any possible reasons for this or is this supposed to be expected?

Hi Vare2,

There should be no difference if the time, location and date are the same, and I do not notice any difference comparing the Interactive Skychart and Stellarium. Try double checking the time/date/location settings. The location setting in Stellarium should read lat=+1 18' & lng=103 51'.

Cheers,
Chris
