First Light: Crescent and Veil Nebula

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

First Light: Crescent and Veil Nebula

Post by Meng Lee »

Hi all,

First light for ATIK 16HR camera. Taken in a rush, no darks taken since the weather prompted me to take lights as fast as I can.

Hope it looks ok.

Thanks. By the way the pics are taken with Atik 16HR , 13nm Astronomik H alpha filter, with ED 115S, typically 7x 2mins exposure.

It's amazing how the veil nebula can be captured so easity! The whole thing being so whispy, it's incredible how vivid the nebula looks.

Thanks. I am using 13nm H alpha filter so the contrast and details will be inferior to the others using 6nm H alpha filter.

The signal to noise ratio is too low, can't stretch anymore, since the shadow areas and noise level is about the same.

I don't think it's as easy as you think ... if that's wat you meant by "easity" :)
