Hi all,
I am an amateur astronomer. Only really had hands on in the past few months. Just found out about this website not long ago....the advice given by the professionals here are really great like the recommended sites for stargazing and how to capture good images.
I have recently been preoccoupied with finding out how to carry out a Radio Astronomy Project to detect meteors and, if possible,
plantets and other Deep Sky Objects. Being a pure amateur, there seems to be a lot of astronomical details regarding Radio Astronomy which I am not quite familiar with, so I would wish to sincerely seek advice here on my first attempt at radio astronomy.
I have read up that it is possible to detect meteors, Deep Sky
Objects etc through the use of FM Radios and television receiving signals
from an outdoor antenna. However, the sources we checked out were described in the context of other foreign countries and we are not sure what exactly I have to do for to perform Radio Astronomy in Singapore.
I would therefore like to verify the following:
1) What equipment do we have to prepare and how we can get them
2) When will be an optimum time for our purpose in this Radio Astronomy
Project ( we found on web a link: http://www.imo.net/calendar/1998 which apparently predicts meteoric activity but we are not sure exactly how to use it and whether it is relevant to Singapore )
3) Where should we set up and carry out our project? Can we do it from our home? ( we read that we should find FM radio stations that are from 400 to 1300 miles away )
4) Is it possible to give me a general guideline / procedures as to how to carry out the project?
Thanks everyone!
Seeking advice on Radio Astronomy!

Hi,
Welcome to SingAstro!!
Hmm... Radio Meteor Observation... I think I got a old chinese Astronomy book which had a section on how to do a simple Radio Meteor Observation... but I need to find it first.
Anyway, you can take a look at the below Radio Meteor Observation website:
http://www.amro-net.jp/radio.htm
Have a nice day.

Yes... it's basically can be used anywhere. You should go to the home page: http://www.imo.net/ and look at the latest calendar (2007). Also, the website will give you information on all the Meteor Shower and how to observe them.2) When will be an optimum time for our purpose in this Radio Astronomy
