Most people don't have much time for astrophotography, this should be good.

Well, SBIG tries to assure us that it can be used for narrowband as well even though there is a Bayer array.

Well the price for a 4 megapixel cooled SBIG camera is USD 3k is really tempting !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the ST bodies are utilising 1.25" filters which have a clear aperture of 25mm... and for the 2048x2048 chip, it requires 22mm, which is still ok. So I guess usage for the filters are ok in this regard. universe24 has a point in reduction of imaging time for a one-shot colour CCD camera, and the ST4KXCM is indeed a good progression upwards from a DSLR user point of view if he is willing to put the dough down. However once you have seen the colour data of generated from a monocrhome camera with separate filters, especially under dark skies, there is no turning back, simply, period. You may like to wait for more models to be coming out soon in Spring 2008 from SBIG.

Actually, that's the reason I choose to buy ATIK 16HR instead of 16 HRC. But our prolonged cloudy skies prevent deep luminance pics to be made. Integration of 10 hours would maybe need 6 months to finish?

So maybe the best is get a mono and a colour camera, then L from the mono camera and RGB from the one-shot colour camera. Then a lot less time is needed for the integration of the 3 channels seperately.

Meng Lee,

6 months? I will grow old by then! if you require 10 hours, say perhaps an resonable average of 2 hours clear sky time per night, it will just require 5 nights. Not even 5 months!

will make full good use of the Desaru trip then!
