new scope

Post by elton »

Ok, I have to admit that there is an 18" in Singapore.

It has seen star light a few times this week already. Last night's views were very striking. The moon took on a new look, texture and 3D was obvious. Colour other than green was detected on M42. Colours of stars were obvious (cant wait to try on jewel box). Still have not used the shroud and encoders. More updates later.

No pictures of it set up because taking photos was the last thing on our minds when the scope is ready to view. Rlow has a few pics of it in the box though. Tonight's sky is great but too bad tomorrow is a working day. Will probably be obbing a lot in the near future so let me know if you want to join me.

How much you paid for shipping? I guess this must be the obsession 18" UC?

Not true! The weather has been excellent since the scope arrived.

Yes it is the Obsession UC. Price of scope and options can be found on Obsession's website. I took most of the options : Shroud, encoder, case. Shipping was US$700-800, cant remember. Full GST was paid....%^*%! Shipping was via freight forwarder who sent it to my door in 3 packages : Shipping case containing scope, mirror in its own box and tube containing poles.

It is not a flat footed scope. If I were to wear high platform shoes, it would be but a short 1-step stool is required otherwise for comfortable viewing. The scope is rigid and smooth, still have not waxed the surfaces as recommended. Collimation even at F 4.2 did not seem more onerous than on the teleport, maybe because two kind souls offered their barlowed lasers. We got the secondary and focuser squared so the scope should be performing fully now.
