Hi,
wish to use it for travel photography... saw one physically from a clubsnap member....he wants to sell it for 2500.
The 2.8L is quite heavy... may be too heavy for travel photography. May be you can look at the F4 version... only one stop slower, but lighter and cheaper.

Anyway, isn't 70-200mm too long for travel photography?? 24-70mm or 24-105mm may be a better choice for travel photography.

Just my S$0.02.

Have a nice day.

yes weixing, i did see the f4 version as well but the f2.8 is more enticing. it would be a mix of close up distant shots and portrait and seeing the the above lens before, it is not a problem (carried a 300mm before to Oz and US). the 24-105 is good, but it covers part of the range of the existing lens.

IIRC buy in Bangkok is cheaper than HK. A friend of mine recently got the 24-70 and 70-200 /f2.8 at very good price for his 5D @ BKK. If you are interested, I can check with him for the price and shop.

Tried both on the 5D, 70-200 is heavy.

thanks for the info Clifford! I think my 300mm is still heavier than the 70-200!

$2500 should be for the IS version. The 70-200 2.8 w/o is is going for about $1300 to $1500.

With or without IS the lens is rather heavy. The f4 is very much lighter and easier to handle.
