From Orion! and I think this is the same sensor used in Nikon D50 and QHY8. I am super tempted. Exterminator of DSLRs!!!

6 MP cooled CCD colour camera!!
Re: 6 MP cooled CCD colour camera!!
For US$1299, why not just get a Canon 450D which has 12.1 MP? What is it that this camera can do but the Canon could not?Meng Lee wrote:From Orion! and I think this is the same sensor used in Nikon D50 and QHY8. I am super tempted. Exterminator of DSLRs!!!

1) It is a cooled camera.VinSnr wrote:For US$1299, why not just get a Canon 450D which has 12.1 MP? What is it that this camera can do but the Canon could not?Meng Lee wrote:From Orion! and I think this is the same sensor used in Nikon D50 and QHY8. I am super tempted. Exterminator of DSLRs!!!

2) Optical window allows H-a and SIII wavelength to pass thru, unlike the 450D which start to cut off around 620nm.
3) 16 bit
What I don't like? It is colour. If it is a monochrome, I'll drool.

yeah!! tempting!! its the price of a modified DSLR.. super cooled and with the annoying custom filter removeD!!! cept.. cant take photos like a normal dslr anymore.. but 16bit is welcomed.. but now without the "digic" or equal "built in image processor" would there be any issue since they claimed the processor is the one which remove the noise and other unwanted baddies from DSLR photos.
Hmmmm, the internal processor indeed may be an issue. I am not sure, correct me if I am wrong. The internal processor is the one that dictates "read-out" noise. Some cameras resort to a USB 1.0 interface to cut down read out noise. If the interface is USB 2.0, then there should be some processor to cut down the noise.

If I understand the Astrophotography and CCD theory correctly, the readout noise is the noise produced by the on-chip amplifier and other sources of noise before the signal is digitize by the Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC). So it doesn't matter whether the camera use a USB 1.0 or USB 2.0.
Anyway, I still prefer to use a DSLR because DSLR can shoot and store the image without the need of a computer, so I don't need to bring a computer out in the field... already need to bring so many things and I don't drive.
Have a nice day.

lol maybe they should come out with one version of this stuff with a timmer control~ and a little LCD panel dat works just like a DSLR!! and a storage media too!! so you can use this without having a computer~~ but then again.. other than the cooling and 16 bit.. it'll be no different from a dslr... ohh and less the annoying filter too! anyone here can modify camera ? i wanna have the 10d internal filter replaced ~~
I think the reason why the pictures are not so impressive is mostly due to the skills of the people.
One thing for sure is that, with the cooling, individual exposures can be much longer. The inability of the DSLR to take very long subs (due to noise) is the main limitation of dslrs.
