Jupiter (1st June 2008)

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Jupiter (1st June 2008)

Post by rcj »

Hi all,

Just back from the Punggai trip over the weekend. First night was mainly darting around with the clouds and rain. Second night was more decent, with a longer expanse of clear sky time for imaging. Here is Jupiter from above mid-altitude conditions with above average seeing. Details on image.

Here's a previous attempt (from the best lot of that night) for comparison done in Singapore when Jupiter was lower.

Planetary imaging evolves around three main rules:

1) Seeing.
2) Seeing.
3) Seeing.

Cheers!

Here's another Jupiter a few minutes after. Notice that it has a more grainy appearance. All processing done similar for this image but it was taken during thin cloud haze.

Good shots. Seeing must be quite good that night. The DMK is colour version or b/w?

Hi,

I think DMK is Monochrome.

Sorry for the late reply, been busy with A2008 preps. Yes the DMK is monochrome. each colour channel was taken via a filter wheel fitted with astronomiks. I have redone the processing for this set of jupiter again, taken in Punggai. It still is one of my better Jupiters.

Incredible details Remus!
Is that the GRS or the baby? I read recently that the baby is being absorbed by the GRS and will eventually disappear...would be good if you tried to capture them both before it disappears. [smilie=admire2.gif]
