Hi all,
I find focusing to be real tough - so i was trying to find a cheap solution and make a hartmann mask - and came across this Bahtinov mask.
Supposedly to be better than the hartmann mask. Here is a discussion link on it.

Pavel Bahtinov Mask for focusing
Re: Pavel Bahtinov Mask for focusing
I've been thinking of making one near future. For the time being. Still waiting for the result and the best technique.maguro77 wrote:Hi all,

Hi,
I use hartmann mask before, but not very effective to get a very good focus if you still use the viewfinder.
Anyway, I just point my scope at Jupiter or one of those brightest star and use the diffraction spikes generate by my Newtonian... the spikes will be at it's brightest when good focus is achieve.
Now, I just use live view from my DSLR.
Hope weather will improve soon.
Have a nice day.

Oh, I am a CCD guy, so for DSLRs, I look at the half flux diameter or FWHM in Imageplus and it takes at most 10mins to get good focusing.
