CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!
Here is an eventual result of a 3-panel colour (HaRGB) mosaic of IC2944 (Running Chicken) with data obtained solely from Melbourne CBD including the RGB and Ha components, a work totally over 7.5 hours of capturing during the past week through a 3-incher. Although I have done mosaics for Ha before, this is my first time doing a colour mosaic for a CCD-based deep sky image. Each colour channel per panel comprises of 5 minute sub-exposures with a stack of 7 per channel per panel. 20 min subs for Ha (x3 per panel).
i am not sure, wu, swat_pup! it seems more like a headless chicken to me with it's "headless" part on the left and then those puffy roundish nebulae on the right are its leg ends and the center portion being its body....it appears to be racing downwards at 7PM direction. Hmmmmm!!
Pictures from spacetelescope show the chicken is somewhere in the centre of nebula, 2nd and 3rd pictures in the link block out the location of the chicken. In rcj 1st picture it is at 7~8 o'clock position and about 5~6cm from the big bright star, very small black patches and not the whole nebula, haha
Sorry, I still cannot see any chickens... maybe it's a mutant space chicken that does not look like our earth chicken?
The dark nebulosity at the bottom of the image looks like someone doing a 100m hurdles...
