Hi all. I'm a newbie. Just wanted to ask : I live in the Serangoon district and the area's pretty cloudy at night so I can't see much stars. However, there is one very distinct star that shines brightly overhead NY JC. I'm not sure what it is though. Anyway, what stars are viewable in the S'goon area? Thanks very much.
What time? Which direction? How high or low? Color?

It usually appears at around 7:30pm or so. Its quite high and it's gone at around 9:30pm, hidden behind the main JC building. The colour I'm not so sure, probably red with faint hintings of blue.
Yup, it's Venus if it's in the West direction. I was looking at it through my scope earlier on, and it sets around 9+, so it's pretty low. If you look at it through a scope, you can see a crescent Venus, haha.
Venus! with no hesitation. And yes it is brilliant white no colour. Sirius and Canopes, Rigel and Betelgeuse you should be able to see easily.
Forget to say all of the stars are above your head at the moment.(If you went to a dark place you will find out. Bring a starmap with you) And sorry Canopus is spelled with u
