where are the clouds????

Post by rcj »

for once, i am wishing for clouds...to shelter us from the searing heat wave that south eastern australia is facing now... Adelaide has had the hotest day (47) in 70 years, and Melb today is 43. Even the shade is searing. Cloudless skies, but....need clouds!! or even better, rain!

Willing to trade some clouds for clear sky.

Specs of Clouds :
1. Thick, Luscious and creamy
2. Guaranteed to block all harmful sunlight.
3. Wide selection for cumulus, stratus and cirrus.
3. Rain included if needed.

Looking for :
1. Clear sky
2. Clearer sky
3. If unclear, look at no. 1 of "Looking for" again.

not much over here since the chinese are a minority. there was some lion dance going on in chinatown few days b4 though, had a late reunion dinner with chinese colleagues... yes...the Oz Open is on now. broadcasting everyday here on tv. my colleague went to watch some of the matches. (two matches cost $70, but finals would be around $200 for THE match). it seems some of the players are trying to adjust to the heat too. today's 43.5deg. CCD camera not too happy, working at 30% more than it should.

My gosh, 47?! Remus, pls remember to drink plenty of water: like 2 glasses every 10 mins. Ha. Better still, sleep in the shower! Have gelato for breakfast, coffee break, lunch, tea, dinner, supper, etc.

Its been so cloudy in S'pore the past week that I've not had a chance to spot Comet Lulin yet. We will be consigning all of our clouds to Melbourne via expedited trans-continental air freight. Akan Datang.

will and did! it was quite an interesting sight in the city that about 70% of the people walking in the streets each carry a water bottle of some kind (mineral water, tumbler, etc), and everyone was in very light clothings, some even shirtless...it was at its highest temp at about mid afternoon earlier, and several bush fires were raging in areas which covers popular sight-seeing spots (Healesville, etc), and people were told mostly to stay indoors today. Was outdoors for some marketing earlier and when you walk in the sun, u don't really perspire, but the heat hits on your face like stings, and has a rather dry feeling. Most air-conditioning centers were not functioning well, and some train lines have stopped with replacement bus services, perhaps due to track buckling, etc. In my building, two out of three lifts were out of service, and our central air-conditioning feels like lukewarm currents. Ice cream, cold drinks were selling like hot cakes, and hot foods were sold at discounted prices compared to cold equivalents. 14 lives were also claimed today mainly in the fire areas where people were trapped in shelters shrouded with flames. Ironically at its highest peak point temperature, the sky was completely overcast, not sure if it was high haze, or uniform clouds, but this somehow trapped the heat further, and there were strong heat winds sweeping up dust and fallen leaves. Right now, it is back to a comfy 22.....whew...a swing of 25 degrees today.

Today's a much cooler low 20ish degrees... a small town in Victoria, Maryville, has been completely razed by the bush fires and the death toll has risen to 25 currently. Thank goodness it rained this morning today, helping the thousands of fire fighters in easing their job of keeping the fires controlled and hopefully doused. Many have said the experience yesterday was worse than Ash Wednesday's event in 1983. No, Jingguo, did not have much time to catch the sport superstars but did watch the 4-hr match between Nadal and Fed last weekend on tv. Here's picture of the environment outside now...
