They are seldom sold in Astromart!!
This observation valid?
One way to determine good astro gears....
disagree. the really gd ones are those that u will never get a chance to buy on astromart. if it's gd and cheap, someone would grab it. if it's too rare, it takes forever to appear and gets bought out within minutes. if it's gd and expensive, u dun have enough to afford it.
strangely the opposite happens on our forum. gd stuff appears at gd prices and nobody ever buys it.

Mooey - I'm confused. I thought Vincent said the same thing you did! If I read it correctly, he's saying that the really good astro stuffs are usually not sold in Astromart. Is that what you are saying also?

Agreed. Mooey has about the same argument as Vincent.
I guess there's an "age gap" in Singastro now haha.. Those who are working and can afford the things usually already have what they want, and those who are still studying / not working and cannot afford are the ones drooling over the cheap stuff that they *still* cannot afford.. We don't have a steady stream of people who are just starting to work and can afford many things and want to buy everything!

I may be wrong but....
Statistically, good and many sold in the market will have more in the used market.
Good and few sold (rare), statistically will have less sold in the used market.
So, if just basing on the number sold in the used market, may not be the most accurate as fewer seen in the used market need not necessary means it is a 'better' product.

Hi,
I agree with Canopus... good and many sold will appear more in the used market even they are good products... there are one thousand and one reason why people want to sell their gears...
Anyway, may be a better indication of a good astro gear is those non-collector gears that are able to retain their resold value easily.
Have a nice day.

I'm usually very cautious when buying through Astromart (or any overseas online portals for 2nd hand goods, for that matter) - as I cannot inspect the items visually (witness the chip in the objective lens of the refractor I bought). Some items have gone through many, many hands and I have no idea on the handling the item had been subjected to.
That said, it depends on the item. For non-breakables (e.g. counter weights), I have no qualms about buying from Astromart. For breakables, I would exercise due diligence.
Back to the topic, the answer should be "good astro gears are found only at the *auction* section of Astromart".
