Jupiter - changes from 2 years ago

Post by starfinder »

I was observing Jupiter early this morning and noticed that its NEB seems to have larger than usual brown swirls. So I decided to image it for the record.

Here are two images showing that great changes take place on Jupiter's surface over time.

The first was taken about 2 years ago, in June 2007. As can be seen, the SEB had practically disappeared and the Equatorial Zone was awash with diagonal bands.

The second was taken this morning. Notice how the two main belts are now very distinct, with the white Equatorial Zone now very plain as compared with 2 years ago. However, the NEB now has large brown swirls (seen near the centre line of Jupiter in the image).

Nice photo of Jupiter. Red spot is clearly visible, not always possible ie if the planet is facing different direction. [smilie=admire.gif]

Hi,starfinder
Good work and nice photo.Jupiter's belt esp the belt where you find the great red spot,is always changing. In fact in the 80's there was a time when that belt completely disappeared.Besides the sun ,Jupiter is another target with constant changes and easy/worth to look at.

i think its due to the rotation of jupiter that causes the flat poles with bulging middle
