Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

Alt-Az mount for C8

Post by jermng »

Hey all,

I'm looking for a simple Alt-Az that can comfortably hold a C8 w/ 2" accesories. Prefereably something with slow-mo controls.

On a tight budget. :)

Any suggestions?

Manfrotto 400 geared head can take 10kg payload. I know someone who uses it with C8. I can let you test it if you like.

I have not used the 400 geared head before, but it appears that the C8 will be mounted only on a single 1/4" or 3/8" screw.

Not only that, once the scope is tilted up, the CG is no longer over the axis of rotation.

Maybe you can consider this as well:

Take a look at the Guan Sheng ATZ mount near the bottom of the page for AUD$249.

Tungkian has this. You can try asking him about it.

The Astro-Tech Voyager seems to be a very good mount - does anyone know if this is the same mount as the GS ATZ?

It seems the Voyager can carry a bigger scope than the Vixen Portamount. :)

Hey Jeremy, if you saw the astroslew AIM mount that denebman posted a few days back. It seems like a really good mount. Maybe you can get him to bring it in some more.

Oh yeah, on a side note (since I can't get you on PMs at all..), do you still have your Vixen-type dovetail for sale? I need to get one to mount my Mak onto the SVP.
