Looking to replace my D70 with newer DSLR with Live View to solve focusing problem. I am trying out prime focus astrophotography (unmodd).
I have read old posts that say canon is better for astrophotography. I came across this review that suggest the Nikon does better at higher ISO in terms of Noise:

I also like the tilt and swivel screen on the nikon, however the canon live view screen is bigger and better resolution.
Does anybody got first hand experience or view on either of the cameras. Thanks in advance for your views.
Nikon D5000 or Canon 500D for astrophotography?

Hi,
If your target is Moon, Solar & planets, both Nikon and Canon DSLR will be OK. But if your target is stars (pin-point light), get the Canon DSLR.
The Nikon DSLR is well known (in Astrophotography) for not giving a true RAW files... it'll applied certain process to make the image cleaner even you shoot in RAW and turn off all noise reduction. This process will make dimmer stars "disappear" and you don't get accurate result when performing calibration.
Have a nice day.
